July 11th, 2013
the summer issue of
is out this month
and i’m very grateful some of my work is in it.
the vision for this effort was
a couple eloping under the peach blossoms of central virginia.
the papers were to create a sense of intimacy of the day and a warmth of inviting guests
to a following celebration … a handkerchief was included with each invitation so that something the couple held on their wedding day
would be passed to the people who loved them most.
the idea and shoot brought together a collaboration of
some intensely gifted people in charlottesville.
to be included was such an honor for me.
what made it all even more incredible, though, was that
these were my friends.
old and new.
there was one moment when a group of us were gathered together
‘blocking the light’
… creating a full shadow so the sun wouldn’t be too bright on some of the papers …
was telling us how to get closer together or shift as a group.
during those few minutes, i hope it’s alright to share i had an ‘eternal instant.’
have you ever heard of that before?
my husband and i read this phrase in a book once.
and we call on it from time to time to describe what most often just can’t be described.
an eternal instant, as we understand it, is a moment that can be as fleeting as a split second,
but it stays with you.
and there i was
basically hugging people i love
and my work was being photographed.
before the news of this lovely magazine or even seeing the gorgeous pictures here,
i was as thankful then as i am tonight
in getting to share them with you.
